Background 

The "Film Designers Guild" is a formation established following the 25-year activity of the "Association of Iranian Film Designers" and includes costume designers and production designers.
Amir Esbati and Ahmad Saket started drafting the association's statute in mid-summer 1994. After several sessions with the presence of writers Mohsen Shah Ebrahimi, Hassan Farsi, and Majid Mirfakhraei, the draft was approved. These people formed the founding board of the association.
August 28 of the same year, following the call and invitation of the costume and stage designers of Iranian cinema, the first general assembly of the association was held in the meeting hall of Khaneh Cinema. Following two more sessions, it was approved by the assembly on September 10, and the first board of directors and inspectors of the association, including Khosrow Khorshidi (chairman), Iraj Raminfar (vice-chairman), Mohsen Shah Ebrahimi (treasurer), Amir Esbati, Majid Mirfakhraei as key members, Hassan Farsi and Negar Javdani as alternate members, Jila Mehrjui as the primary inspector and Majid Vaziri started his activity as an alternate inspector. It became a member of Khaneh Cinema, the Iranian Cinema Guilds Association. During its years of activity, the Film Designers Association has been actively cooperating with the management of Khaneh Cinema and its affiliated institutions. Several times in the general assemblies of Khaneh Cinema, the association's representative became a member of the board of directors of Khaneh Cinema. After the problems created by the ninth and tenth governments for Khaneh Cinema, which led to its temporary closure, members and management of Khaneh Cinema adopted the solution of registering Guilds in the Ministry of Labor as a suitable solution to resolve controversial legal ambiguities.
Following this decision, the Film Designers Association took the necessary measures with the desire of the majority of its members. After long and comprehensive discussions in several meetings and social media, the essential call was announced, and the founding general assembly was held. Finally, according to Article 131 of the Labor Law of the Islamic Republic and the regulations approved by the cabinet in November 2010, the Film Designers Guild Association was registered with the General Directorate of Cooperatives, Labor and Social Welfare in Tehran Province under No. 7-2/1-836. 
The General Assembly of the Film Designers Guild was held on January 6, 2019, at 4:00 PM in the presence of Mohammad Reza Moeini, a representative of Khaneh Cinema, and Mahmoud Kalateh, a representative of the Ministry of Cooperatives, Labor and Social Welfare, in the presence of 54 people. After the approval of the Articles of Association, it elected the first board of directors and inspectors.
